As a lingerie fitting & styling expert I’m all about wearing matching sets but I totally get how frustrating it is when one half of your underwear won’t coordinate with a chosen outfit.
Often asked how to get around this, what knickers to wear with a particular outfit, what styles of underwear are the most flattering, and which knickers are the most comfortable, I put together my top 3 essential underwear styles for every woman to own.
Here are my tips on what knickers to wear with what…
#1 – A stash of easy-to-wear-under-everything seamless knickers in your go-to colour (cream, black or blush) are an essential in every woman’s underwear drawer. A seamless Brazilian shorty is as easy to wear with a slim fitting skirt as it is with your Sweaty Betty leggings, and for thong fans pick a style with a minimum two-inch hip to avoid tell-tale lines.
“Be prepared for anything with a drawer full of classic, versatile nude underwear: it will help you streamline your look and will be invisible under neutral shades.” – Elle UK, circa 2008
#2 – Fuller pants with a boxy cut create a wide band around hips making them appear wider but Brazilian and Tanga styles are a beautiful shape on almost every woman.
I am literally in love with this particular lace tanga and recommend it to every woman. The V-shape finish flatters the fuller part of your bum, and the higher hip makes legs look longer. Plus, the soft stitch-free scallop lace edge makes this a super pretty panty with no VPL. Practical and pretty.
Wear a pretty lace tanga with tailored trousers or pick a pair in a bold colour to wear under a coordinated outfit to really super-charge confidence.
#3 – Having a silky, sexy or down-right naughty knicker in your underwear drawer is a must for every woman. It could be a simple style in a super-tactile fabric, like silk, that sets your skin to tingle, or a more provocative pair such as a pearl thong or ouvert spanking knicker.
So what if these playful styles are almost impossible to wear day-to-day… some were made to wear with nothing else at all anyway!
Make feeling good a priority and try wearing a bow-tie brief with a bralette to bed or opt for an open bum brief when you choose your next bra set. Just to see how it feels. 😉
Whether you prefer your knickers practical, pretty or provocative, keeping a range of pants in various shapes and colours will mean you’re set for every eventuality.
